In praise of heroes past and present

Then: Feminist and socialist Clara Zetkin speaks to a rally of German workers.
Now: Trans rights activists protest in the Idaho Capitol building.

This gathering will combine historical education with news of current organizing. Hear about the early German communist and feminist Clara Zetkin, initiator of International Women’s Day and a fighter for the United Front strategy to defeat fascism. Then move to the present day to get up to speed on widespread attacks on trans people and bold efforts to oppose them in several states. Find out how you can help build a forum featuring Latinx feminists on the César Chávez sexual abuse revelations and learn what Radical Women members are doing around the country. Bring your questions and ideas. Everyone welcome.

Saturday, April 25 • 2pm PDT, 3pm MDT, 4pm CDT, 5pm EDT

Hear a first-hand account of the history-making 1955-56 Black transit riders’ strike in an unvarnished 30-minute interview with the amazing Jo Ann Robinson. Courageous and tenacious, Robinson was the head of the Women’s Political Council in Montgomery, Alabama. She and other Black women and students organized the community in a battle that shook segregation to its core. The 1985 interview was conducted for the award-winning documentary “Eyes on the Prize.” Open discussion will follow the film.
