Radical Women statement

From Caracas to Minneapolis

Feminists say NO to ICE attacks and U.S. occupation!

Radical Women member holds sign saying End US Sanctions Now at a Rally in Seattle, WA.

In less than a week, the world has seen an escalation in atrocities committed by the Trump regime both internationally and at home. On January 3, the U.S. bombed Caracas and kidnapped Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro and his wife Cilia Flores, in a clear and criminal attempt to advance imperialist goals and take control of resources in the region. Days later, on January 7, ICE agent Jonathon Ross killed Renee Nicole Good, a queer mother of three in Minneapolis, shooting her while she was sitting in her car.

The next day, in Portland, Oregon, Venezuelan immigrants Luis David Nico Moncada and Yorlenys Betzabeth Zambrano-Contreras were wounded after being shot by a Border Patrol officer. Not long before these events, Keith Porter, Jr., a 43-year-old Black man and father of two, was fatally shot by an off-duty ICE officer in Northridge, California. In 2025, 32 people died in ICE custody, the highest recorded number in over 20 years.

The outrages in Venezuela and the U.S. are all are very much connected, as the U.S. government has in effect set itself up as an occupying force abroad and in its own cities. These brutalities point to the ways the Trump regime has pushed its capitalist and imperialist agenda to monopolize the world’s resources and repress opposition at home. They reflect the administration’s disregard for human life and its drive to frighten people from standing up and fighting for their rights.

The U.S. has a long history of violating the independence and economic stability of Venezuela that began long before the latest attacks and kidnapping. For years, the U.S. has imposed sanctions to punish the country for nationalizing its oil industry and other reforms. The blockade of Venezuelan oil has contributed to a long-running economic crisis that cruelly hurts workers, the poor, women and indigenous people. Food is scarce. The country’s healthcare system is in a state of near-collapse. Despite a constitutional right to family planning, contraception is almost completely inaccessible or only attainable at great cost. Unintended and teen pregnancies, sexually transmitted infections, maternal deaths, and domestic violence have all increased.

Similar phenomena are occurring in the U.S. especially among the most vulnerable groups, as healthcare and reproductive rights are under attack. Patriarchy, a tool the ruling class uses to maintain its dominance, is alive and well. It’s seen in the insistent rise of gender oppression in Venezuela, the U.S., and around the world.

People have taken to the streets to demand an end to the naked resurgence of U.S. imperialism. As the Trump regime deepens its attacks on oppressed and working-class people, broad ranks are rising up in mass protest, marches, and demonstrations. United action is vital to stop the war on Venezuela, immigrants, and all other oppressed groups.

Build international feminist solidarity! U.S. hands off Venezuela! ICE out of U.S. cities! End the raids, detentions, and deportations! Banish U.S. imperialism around the globe!
