International Women’s Day greetings from the Working Women Organization of Pakistan

Lahore, PAKISTAN: Activists of Pakistan’s Working Women Organizations (WWO) chant slogans during a protest ahead of International Women Day, in Lahore 2007. The independent Human Rights Commission of Pakistan said in its annual report last month that there were 565 honour killings in Pakistan in 2006, nearly double the number in 2005. Dear Friends!

As the world knows, tension between India and Pakistan is extremely alarming. On International Women’s Day, from both sides of border, women must raise their voices strongly against war now more than ever. Both sides’ women are the first target of all kinds of war and hostility. They pay extremely high price for a few men’s greed for power. A salute to all women who are collecting pieces of their lives in war-shattered areas and struggling for peace!

I wish to express solidarity with women around the globe who are confronting exploitation and injustice at their homes, cities and countries!!! More power to you all!

Have a fruitful international women day!!

Warmest greetings!!!

Aima Mahmood
