Women's Rights Day Film Showing

An urgent look at the far-reaching attacks on women's ability to control their own bodies in the U.S.

In the full-length film Birthright: A War Story, award-winning investigative journalist Civia Tamarkin probes the origins and impact of the decades-long effort to control women's reproduction through legal and religious assaults.

The concept of fetal ‘‘personhood" has resulted in hundreds of criminal prosecutions, primarily of women of color, for supposedly unsafe behavior during pregnancy. Meanwhile, maternal and infant deaths of Black and Indigenous people are skyrocketing. How can activists ensure no forced pregnancies, along with healthy, socially supported parenthood for those who choose it? Learn the facts and be part of the post-film discussion on what can be done locally and nationally.

The plot follows investigators who are challenged to unravel a horrific crime on a remote Wyoming reservation during a bone-chilling winter. Though the film has limitations, it powerfully reflects the thousands of real-life incidents of violence against Indigenous women, who have the highest rate of rape and assault in the U.S. Radical Women shows the film in solidarity with and support of Native women who are leading the way to end the violence. Discussion Series - Mondays, 7:00-8:30pm
5 sessions June 10-July 8
Feminism & the Left
Socialist feminism is at the center of discussion among revolutionaries, following the recent implosion of the International Socialist Organization over a cover-up of sexist abuse by their leadership. This open, four-week discussion group will read a series of articles and essays that explore these questions that are confronting the Left worldwide. Everyone is welcome.

We won't go back! The battle for abortion rights

Anti-abortionists have stepped up their assault on reproductive rights. Georgia and Alabama just passed horrific new laws that would criminalize nearly every abortion and open the door to charges of murder for women and doctors. These are some of the most extreme attacks on abortion rights in the U.S. What can reproductive justice activists do to stop this war on women?

Also on the agenda, help formulate Radical Women fundraising efforts and learn about upcoming LGBTQ Pride Month activities. Bring your energy and enthusiasm and get involved in grassroots socialist feminism!

John Brown's Daughter
The Unforgettable Life & Times of Annie Brown Adams

Presentation by Guerry Hoddersen, feminist writer and civil rights veteran

Learn about the radical abolitionist movement and the militant legacy of John Brown who attempted to spark a slave rebellion on the eve of the Civil War. In the stirring history of the raid that he and a small group of Black and white men launched at Harper's Ferry, Annie Brown Adams' courageous role is often overlooked. As a 15-year-old, she ran the clandestine house where Brown's men waited for the call to action. Following the raid, Brown's wife and daughters suffered poverty and notoriety, but were also powerful symbols of the fight to end slavery in the U.S.

Women's History Month BOOK LAUNCH
High Voltage Women
Breaking Barriers at Seattle City Light

A compelling account of pioneering electrical tradeswomen whose fight for affirmative action and against job harassment changed their workplace, their union, and their city. Radical Women is incredibly proud of the role played by our founder Clara Fraser and other members in an effort that began in the 1970s and continues today. The book shows how tradeswomen built alliances with men of color, white male union members and office staff to change the culture of management abuse and life-threatening sexism and racism at Seattle City Light.
