The evening will also include a report on the June 9 counter-protest to the right-wing Patriot Prayer. Radical Women worked in coalition with others to stand up for women's rights. Spoiler: the neo- fascists were completely outnumbered. Bring your thoughts and ideas.

Defend Women's Reproductive Freedom -- Say "No!" to misogynists and white supremacists

Planned Parenthood, Kent Valley Health Center
10056 SE 240th #A Kent, WA 98031
Feminists and human rights supporters are standing together against Patriot Prayer and the Joey Gibson for U.S. Senate campaign with their stepped-up misogynist attacks and call to "defund Planned Parenthood."
We will stand shoulder-to-shoulder with all in our community who are targeted by the far-right in a unified, orderly and strong counter-protest.
Join Radical Women, Seattle Clinic Defense, ANSWER, Freedom Socialist Party, the Party for Socialism and Liberation and Steve Hoffman for U.S. Senate Campaign to stand against sexism, white supremacy and all forms of bigotry. We are working in solidarity with Greater Seattle IWW General Defense Committee Local 24, which is also mobilizing people to be there.
For more information or to endorse contact Radical Women at rwseattle@mindspring.com, 206-722-6057.
See News Release here.
-------------------- Additional Background :
Patriot Prayer and its far-right cohorts have been stepping up their misogynist attacks on women and reproductive rights by protesting at Planned Parenthood in Olympia and women's marches in major West Coast cities. They are emboldened by the Trump administration's agenda to systematically strip away abortion access and all reproductive choices. The latest example is the revival of a rule denying federal funds to family planning organizations that provide abortions or make referrals for this life-saving medical procedure.
The right-wingers behind the rally in Kent are the same bigots that have been appearing with increasing frequency in Seattle, Vancouver, Portland and California. When they come, they bring violence, racism, sexism, homophobia, transphobia, Islamophobia, etc. Increasingly they have been targeting Muslims, immigrants and the left (socialists, communists, anarchists).
The bigotry, racism and violence that these far-right organizers bring cannot be allowed to go unanswered. Regardless of our diverse political affiliations and views, we understand that solidarity and unity in action is our greatest strength. Solidarity enables us to overcome the barriers towards building a powerful, democratic working-class movement.
Mondays, through June 4
Weekly feminist reading circle
The Origin of the Family, Private Property and the State

In this essential work of Marxist theory, Frederick Engels shows how society evolved from early cooperative matriarchies to the class-stratified, male-dominated system of today.
Discussions will examine why women's second-class status persists - with problems such as sexual harassment, discrimination, and unequal pay - and how it can be overcome. Armed with this knowledge, the group will examine strategies for women's liberation. Readers will gain the optimistic view that capitalist brutality is only one brief stage along humanity's path forward. Books will be available for sale at the sessions. See the Reading Circle Syllabus.
Mondays, 7:00-8:30 pm
Light snacks at 6:45 pm for donation. Everyone welcome.

Stand up for Human Rights:
Picket Against Bigotry, White Supremacy and Fascism

Join the picket on the west side of 4th Avenue across from Westlake Park, between Pine and Pike in Seattle. Stand in opposition to Joey Gibson's Patriot Prayer rally which begins at 3:00pm downtown.
Joey Gibson of Patriot Prayer, who is trying to cloak himself in respectability by running as a Republican candidate for U.S. Senate, is in fact an organizer of countless gatherings that bring together white supremacists, misogynists, homophobes and outright fascists. Groups regularly in attendance at his rallies include Identity Evropa, Proud Boys, Cascade Legion and Atomwaffen Division.
The right-wingers behind the May 20th so-called "open carry march" in downtown Seattle are the same thugs that have been appearing with increasing frequency in Seattle, Vancouver, Portland, and California. When they come, they bring violence, racism, sexism, homophobia, transphobia, Islamophobia, etc. Increasingly they have been targeting the left (socialists, communist, anarchists) and reproductive rights.
Several organizations are coming together to organize a picket in opposition.
STATEMENT OF UNITY:
The bigotry, racism, and violence that far-right organizers are bringing to Seattle on May 20th cannot be allowed to go unanswered. Regardless of our diverse political affiliations and views, we understand that solidarity and unity in action is our greatest strength. Solidarity enables us to overcome the barriers towards building a powerful, democratic working-class movement.
We will be shoulder-to-shoulder with all in our community who are targeted by the far-right in a unified, orderly, and strong counter-protest.
Join the Freedom Socialist Party, Party for Socialism and Liberation, Seattle Gay News, Radical Women, Greater Seattle Veterans For Peace Chapter 92, Dyke Community Activists, ANSWER Coalition and others to stand against bigotry, white supremacy, and fascism. Bring your signs and banners and join the picket line!

Of Politics and Pussyhats

The #MeToo movement and the massive January 20 Women's Marches have both rallied feminists and caused unexpected fallout. This meeting will analyze the significance of these events and the furor surrounding them. What criticisms are legitimate and what do the problems signify? Where is backlash coming from? Are debates over pussyhats distracting from more pressing concerns over fighting far-right misogynists? Discuss these questions and add your thoughts about how to build working-class, intersectional feminist solidarity.

March with Radical Women at the 2018 Women's March

Join thousands of feminists taking to the streets this Saturday. Help Radical Women celebrate resistance and strengthen opposition to assaults on women, queers, immigrants, people of color, and the poor. We call for a militant feminist movement to take on the far-right and the profit system at the core of this sexist, racist system.
-- 9:30 am - Meet the Revolutionary Feminist Contingent at 11th and Pine St. (southeast corner of Cal Anderson Park). Look for the Radical Women and Freedom Socialist Party banner that reads "Bigotry, War and Capitalism - NO; Race Liberation and Revolutionary Feminism- YES."
-- 10:00 am - Women's March Rally at south end of Cal Anderson Park
-- 11:30 am - March to Seattle Center
The Revolutionary Feminist Contingent will be a disciplined response to the ultra-conservative Patriot Prayer group that has announced counter-protests in Seattle and other cities. This summer in Seattle, Patriot Prayer co-sponsored an anti-Muslim rally and led a so-called "Freedom Rally" the day after a white nationalist murdered a human rights defender in Charlottesville, Virginia. They retreated after being met with massive opposition. It's time to do that again! Far-right bigots must not be allowed to disrupt the Women's March. It is critical to oppose them with an organized exercise of free speech such as chanting and holding banners to stop their attempts to infiltrate the march. Radical Women encourages everyone to do the same.
To join the contingent or get involved, contact Radical Women at 206-722-6057 or rwseattle@mindspring.com
