Defend the Fertility Control Clinic
On the fourth Saturday each month, pro-choicers defend the East Melbourne clinic from harassment by the "Helpers of God's Precious Infants." These anti-abortion fanatics are part of a rightwing push to overturn Victoria's 2008 legislation that legalised abortion.

Come to the Fertility Control Clinic, 118 Wellington Parade, East Melbourne. For more information, contact Radical Women: 03-9388-0062 or radicalwomen@optusnet.com.au.

Join the Equal Pay Day of Action
The Australian Services Union is leading an equal pay campaign of community sector employees across the country. In April, an alliance of unions launched the first national pay equity case that will impact 200,000 workers. Obscenely underpaid, this overwhelmingly female industry is standing up to sexist exploitation and saying No More! Radical Women endorses this historic union campaign.

Hope to see you at the June 10 rally! Let’s make this day the beginning of a campaign by community workers, other unionists and our communities that won’t stop until equal pay is a reality for all women. Interested? Let’s talk.

Federation Square, Melbourne (Swanston & Flinders Streets, opposite Flinders Street train station) For information about the campaign, click onto http://www.payup.org.au

Take action for abortion rights:
Women Must Decide Their Fate!
On May 29 & 30, Victorian pro-choice activists will be in Sydney, joining those from other states in the first national rally for abortion rights. The occasion is an international conference of the far-rightwing, misogynist Right to Life, which chose Sydney as its meeting place.

Want to be part of the Victorian contingent? Or help build it by offering your skills and pro-choice passion? Then come to this planning meeting! Radical Women will also report on the F Conference, organised by young women and held in Sydney over the April 10-11 weekend - the first national feminist gathering in 10 years, where RW and other grassroots abortion rights campaigners from New South Wales and Queensland are holding workshops.

The meeting is free and will be held at Solidarity Salon, 580 Sydney Road, Brunswick (easily accessible on Tram #19, near Blyth or Stewart Street stops, and Upfield train line, near Anstey station; plenty of parking off Staley Street). Dinner, with a vegetarian option, will be served at 6.30 pm for an $8.00 donation.

Abortion Rights Under Attack--
Join Interstate Activists, Fight Back!
The successful fight to decriminalise abortion in Victoria put abortion rights back onto the national stage. No sooner was Victoria's reform passed in October 2008 than the Catholic Church began preparations to challenge it. Six months later, the Queensland police charged a 19-year-old Cairns woman and her partner under the state's 1899 Criminal Code for procuring her abortion. This year, through February and March, an orchestrated targeting by religious zealots of clinics in Melbourne, Sydney and Brisbane further signals a resurgence of coordinated assaults on women's rights. The abortion wars have reignited.

Last month, Radical Women and other grassroots abortion rights activists from Victoria, New South Wales and Queensland met in Sydney to analyse developments and chart a course for a coordinated national campaign. RW will report back from this historic gathering. Come along to hear about it, share your ideas and be part of the action!

The discussion will be held at Solidarity Salon, 580 Sydney Road, Brunswick (easily accessible on Tram #19, near Blyth or Stewart Street stops, and Upfield train line, near Anstey station; plenty of parking off Staley Street). A refreshing dinner, with vegetarian option, will be served at 6.30 pm for an $8.00 donation.

Women, system change & becoming the leaders we've been waiting for!
Working class women organising as women: is this separatist? Does it divide the working class? This is still a contentious issue in the socialist movement worldwide. Radical Women believes that women - united with men to transform this society into one that is just and equal - strengthen this struggle by independently building ourselves and others as leaders and connecting back with other movements of the oppressed to fight the common enemy: capitalism.

This discussion is for all social justice fighters, seasoned and new. It will include a perspective within the Revolutionary Workers Party of Costa Rica that women workers organising autonomously will develop the leadership needed for making revolutionary change. Come along and share your ideas. All genders are welcome!

The meeting is free and will be held at Solidarity Salon, 580 Sydney Road, Brunswick (easily accessible on Tram #19, near Blyth or Stewart Street stops, and Upfield train line, near Anstey station; plenty of parking off Staley Street). A refreshing summertime dinner will be served at 6.30 pm for an $8.00 donation.

Women's Rights in Mexico -
Viewed by socialist feminist sisters on the ground
Radical Women hosts a discussion on a groundbreaking new booklet, Notes from the Female Reality in Mexico, by Leda Silva Victoria and Angélica Garcia Olivares. The authors paint a stark portrait of Mexican women's lives, from rising violence and the criminalisation of abortion to the feminisation of poverty. But they share good news, too - women are mobilising! The writers are leaders of the Partido Obrero Socialista (Socialist Workers Party) of Mexico and are on the front line in developing a socialist program for women's liberation. Bring your observations and contributions to this vital discussion about our Latina sisters.

The English version of the pamphlet was issued by Radical Women Publications at the request of the authors. For a copy of the document in English or Spanish, go to http://www.radicalwomen.org/feminist_solidarity.html

A Mexican buffet, with vegetarian option, will be served at 6.30 pm for a $7.00 donation. The meeting will be held at Solidarity Salon, 580 Sydney Road, Brunswick. Easily accessible on Tram #19, near Blyth or Stewart Street stops, and Upfield train line, near Anstey station. Plenty of parking off Staley Street.

Rally and March for Same-Sex Marriage Rights!
While mobilisation for same-sex relationship equality has resulted in some reforms, the government continues to pander to the religious right by refusing to recognise same-sex marriage - even though there is a great deal of public support for it, especially among young people!

Demonstrate your backing of full equality for queers at this mass march that will launch a year of action for same-sex marriage rights.

Hook up with Radical Women and march with a radical contingent! We will rally at the State Library at the corner of Swanston and Latrobe Streets in Melbourne. Call Alison on 03-9388-0062 for more information, or look for RW's placards.
